History of Chilton House

Find out more

Undoubtedly built for the view, Chilton House is situated in an idyllic position within the village. On the garden side is the 12th century church, with the front overlooking the lake and the rolling hills of the Chilterns.

The house came into the Aubrey-Fletcher family in the mid seventeenth century through a very wise marriage! And although various generations have either lived at Dorton House in the next door village or at another house in Chilton, the house has remained in family ownership ever since. The present owner’s father was brought up in Chilton House and it was only when it was requisitioned during the war to house a school that the family finally moved to a house in the village where they still live.

Chilton House in the 21st century

Since 1987 the family has worked tirelessly and passionately to constantly improve Chilton House, retaining the function of a nursing home but identifying a niche as a far more exclusive establishment, tailored to offer the highest standards of nursing care, combined with the comfort and services of a fine country house hotel.

This remains very much a family run business 27 years on.
